Financial Aid and Affordability Strategies

Your financial picture is more complex than a form can capture. We help you tell the complete, accurate story.

Elite institutions are expensive, with many having costs of attendance approaching six figures per year. They use sophisticated methodology to assess family finances and protect their yield. Many do not understand at first, but families with self-employment income, international assets, business equity, or non-traditional financial structures are routinely disadvantaged. This is not because they lack need, but because standard forms were not designed for them. The result is an award that reflects the methodology, not a family and its unique circumstances.

We help families ensure the institution has the full, accurate picture, presented correctly, documented thoroughly, and presented in the language financial aid officers recognize.

The methodology sees a balance sheet and a tax return. We help the institution see the actual family.

Complete disclosure. Strategic presentation.

We ground every recommendation in accuracy and full transparency, understanding the unique nature of each family and each institution. This is representation, not manipulation. We do not advise on asset restructuring, tax strategy, or any approach that belongs in a conversation with your CPA or attorney. We do not help families misrepresent their financial position. Nor will we work with families seeking shortcuts.

What we do is ensure that the genuine complexity of your situation – the businesses you built, the properties that fund your retirement, the income reduction that happened in real time, the circumstances that changed after you filed –  gets documented precisely and presented in an actionable way for the institutions.

Our Clients – Who You Are

Complex financial structures
Self-employed income, S-corps, LLCs, business equity, rental income, equity compensation. Families whose financial reality does not fit neatly into a W-2 and 401(k) world.
Changed circumstances
Income variability or reduction, business disruption, family health costs, relocation… a standard award will not reflect these accurately.

International & expat families Foreign real estate, multi-currency income, dual citizenship, families relocating across borders. A core specialization of our practice.
Families who received less than expected
A first award is often the opening of a conversation. Professional Judgment authority exists for exactly this, but only if the case is made correctly, with the right documentation and context.

Navigating Merit Aid

Schools use merit aid and discounting to manage yield, especially as they face a demographic cliff and financial challenges. So with top students, even if you do not qualify for need-based financial aid, you should not be paying sticker price at every institution. We help families act strategically to build college lists that generate aggressive, non-need-based merit scholarships. When elite universities panic about their enrollment yields in March and April, we guide families on how to ethically leverage competing acceptances and VIP honors programs to negotiate stronger merit packages – and in many cases better “fit.”

Not for everyone

Our service is not for families seeking to minimize disclosed assets, hide information, restructure finances ahead of filing, or present a picture that does not reflect their actual situation. We decline those engagements. The families we work with pay for expertise, accuracy, and representation — not workarounds.

If that distinction matters to you, we are likely a good fit.
